Job Title: Building Technician
Job Summary
As a Building Technician, you will maintain, repair, install, and construct commercial building exteriors, interiors, canopies, and related systems. Responsibilities include working with exterior and interior finishes, structural components, roofing systems, storefronts, doors, metal doors, and performing basic plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, and control system repairs.
Knowledge & Experience
Candidates must demonstrate verifiable experience relevant to the job summary. Extensive knowledge of commercial building construction methods and materials is required, along with strong expertise in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems related to commercial properties.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
Perform scheduled repairs and maintenance on customer-owned buildings and equipment.
Complete assigned daily tasks efficiently.
Keep the shop service area clean and organized.
Ensure customer worksites are left neat and professional.
Use provided tools and equipment responsibly.
Supply your own basic mechanic tools.
Submit written parts requests to the appropriate department.
Accurately document hours worked per work order.
Log hours using a company-provided cell phone and mandatory GPS-enabled time-tracking app.
Greet customers cheerfully in person and over the phone.
Address customer inquiries about equipment and repairs.
Report potential customer issues or complaints to managers promptly.
Provide customers with guidance on equipment operation and maintenance.
Share technical expertise with coworkers as needed.
Complete all paperwork legibly, thoroughly, and on time.
Maintain positive relationships with coworkers and management.
Plan efficient travel routes and navigate independently or with a team to job sites.
Tow trailers (flatbed, dump, box, and other towable equipment) as needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
2–4 years of related experience and/or training.
Valid driver’s license in good standing.
Ability to obtain a DOT medical card.
Must pass a drug screen.
General Skills
Proficiency in the safe and skilled use of:
Hand tools (e.g., mechanic, carpentry, painting tools).
Power tools (e.g., battery-operated, electric, pneumatic).
Measuring and testing instruments (e.g., tape measure, level, multi-meter).
Ladders and scaffolding (e.g., step, extension, rolling).
Small engine equipment (e.g., concrete saw, air compressor).
Operational Skills (Desired)
Experience with:
Forklift.
Scissor lift.
Loader (small/medium-size).
Backhoe (small/medium-size).
Excavator (small/medium-size).
Language Skills
Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and procedure documents.
Write routine reports and correspondence clearly and legibly.
Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and associates.
Mathematical Skills
Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
Take and record precise measurements accurately.
Calculate percentages, area, circumference, and volume correctly.
Reasoning Skills
Solve practical problems with limited standardization.
Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Use a company-provided smartphone effectively for time tracking and email.
